CALL FOR PERFORMERS
Liberated Muse is a multi-disciplinary artist collective presenting music, theatre, spoken word, books and films that highlight the experiences and stories of people of the African diaspora. Founded in 2008, Liberated Muse's work also focuses on the work of women who have used their platform for social justice. I am the founder, resident playwright and artistic director of Liberated Muse who is working on casting for a new show that I will be presenting in 2025 during a DC-based festival in March.
Echoes of U Street: The Unsung Harmonies of Black Broadway is a vibrant musical theatrical presentation that brings to life the rich history of Black Broadway in DC through soulful music, evocative spoken word poetry, and captivating performances. I am seeking actors and singers who will be available on March 2 to perform in this production
We are seeking performers with strong vocal abilities and a passion for storytelling through song and spoken word.
1. Vocalists/Actors
Female Identifying, 20-50s: Strong soulful vocalists with range and experience in jazz, blues, and gospel.
Male Identifying, 20-50s: Versatile vocalists with experience in jazz, blues, gospel, and spoken word.
All performers: Must be comfortable performing solo and in ensemble pieces.
2. Spoken Word Artists
Any Gender, 20-50s: Dynamic spoken word artists with a rich, expressive voice. Experience with socially relevant or historical pieces is a plus.
Audition Submission Requirements
Please submit the following by November 29:
Headshot
Video Clip: A monologue or song clip (1-3 minutes) showcasing your vocal and/or acting abilities.
Vocalists: Please prepare a piece in jazz, blues, or gospel style.
Spoken Word Artists: Prepare a socially relevant or historically inspired piece.
